Club Deportivo Águila, more commonly known as just Águila, is a Salvadoran football club located in the town of San Miguel. It was founded on June 28, 1937, and has won a total of twelve league championships. Águila has also competed in the CONCACAF Champions League five times. The club's home stadium is the Estadio Cuscatlán, which has a capacity of 45,000 people.
Águila was founded on June 28, 1937, by a group of young men from the town of San Miguel. The club's first president was Alejandro Coto, and its first coach was Alfonso Montes. Águila joined the Salvadoran football league in 1938, and won its first league championship in 1939. The team has won a total of twelve league titles, the most recent of which came in 2013.
Águila has also been a regular participant in the CONCACAF Champions League, having competed in the tournament five times. The team's best performance came in 2007, when it reached the semi-finals.
The Estadio Cuscatlán is the home stadium of Águila, and has a capacity of 45,000 people. The stadium was opened in 1976, and has also been used for a number of other sporting events, including the 1983 FIFA World Youth Championship and the 1992 Summer Olympics.
After two years in the second division, Aguila qualified for a promotion playoff against Atlético Constancia. Thanks to a double from Juan Antonio Merlos, they won the first game 2-0 and then drew 0-0 in the second leg. This resulted in Aguila's return to the Primera Division for the 2019 Apertura.
In June 2019, Aguila made headlines by signing former Manchester United striker Radamel Falcao on a free transfer. The Colombian international had been without a club since leaving AS Monaco at the end of the 2018-19 season.
