    The celebrated University of North Carolina Tar Heels Men's basketball team is the source of much pride and excitement among its passionate fan base. North Carolina has won a total of six NCAA championships, four within the shot clock era - ranking third behind UCLA and Kentucky with 11 and 8 championships respectively. Within four days of Head Coach Roy Williams' retirement, Hubert Davis - a former Tar Heel player and assistant coach - was hired to take up the mantle as his successor. 
    The University of North Carolina has attained eighteen Atlantic Coast Conference tournament (ACC) titles, and thirty-two ACC regular season titles and holds the record for appearing in twenty-one NCAA Tournament Final Fours. The Tar Heels have glided through twelve NCAA Tournament championship games and an unprecedented twenty-one Final Fours. With a whopping 51 selections for the NCAA Tournament, the second-most all-time, and an impressive 130 victories (the most of any other team), it's no surprise why The Tar Heels have become legendary. In 1971, North Carolina achieved a historical victory in the National Invitation Tournament (NIT), and since then has gone on to reach two NIT Finals accompanied by six more tournament appearances. North Carolina blue boasts an impressive record, securing 927 weeks in the top 25 of the AP Poll - a historic all-time high. Moreover, they have beaten No. 1 ranked teams 14 times and hold 38 records for 25-win seasons. Most impressively, North Carolina has achieved 37 consecutive top-three ACC regular season finishes! North Carolina has earned the esteemed honor of being among the top 25 teams in both the AP Poll and Coaches Poll a staggering 51 and 53 times, respectively. The Tar Heels have earned an impressive six top spots in the AP Poll, and a remarkable seven No. 1 rankings as determined by the Coaches' Poll! In the spectacular year of 2008, the Tar Heels were honored with a unanimous No. 1 preseason ranking in both the Coaches Poll and AP Poll - setting an unprecedented record!
    Fueled by intense energy and enthusiasm, the team managed to shock Duke with a 94–81 victory in Mike Krzyzewski's last home games at Cameron Indoor Stadium. Despite the unfortunate ejection of star forward Brady Manek after a flagrant foul, the Tar Heels still managed to earn an 8 seed in the NCAA tournament and pull off a miraculous upset against East Region's No. 1 seed Baylor during the second round. To reach the 2022 Final Four in New Orleans, the Tar Heels achieved impressive victories over UCLA and Saint Peter's in their Sweet Sixteen and Elite Eight matchups. In an epic rematch of the regular season finale against Duke, the Tar Heels prevailed with a win at 81-77 in Mike Krzyzewski's last game as head coach in the national semifinals. As they entered the National Championship game, the Tar Heels were ten points ahead of their opponents, the Kansas Jayhawks. Unfortunately, despite their promising start, they couldn't maintain it and fell to a final score of 69–72 — ultimately finishing as National Runner-Up for that season's tournament.
