The Air Force Falcons basketball team has a rich history dating back to 1956. The team has seen success in recent years, winning the Mountain West Conference tournament in 2004 and making it to the NCAA tournament in 2006. The Falcons have a strong homecourt advantage, playing their home games at the Clune Arena on the Air Force Academy campus. They also have a heated rivalry with the Wyoming Cowboys, whom they play each year in the “Border War.” Under head coach Jeff Bzdelik, the Falcons have had some of their best seasons ever. In his first season, the team won 22 games and made it to the NCAA tournament. In 2006-2007, the team won 27 games and made it back to the NCAA tournament. The following year, they made it to the National Invitation Tournament (NIT). Some of the top players in Air Force basketball history include Davey Johnson, who was named an All-American in 1968; Bob Beckel, who led the team in scoring for three straight seasons; and Michael Lyons, who is the current leading scorer in Air Force history.
