The Utah State Aggies are a collegiate football team representing Utah State University. They compete in the Mountain West Conference (MWC) of the Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS) of NCAA Division I .

The Aggies have played their home games in Romney Stadium since 1968. It is the oldest continuously used football stadium among FBS schools and has been expanded and renovated several times, most recently in 2010. The capacity of the stadium currently stands at 25,513. Utah State Football's main rivals are BYU , Utah , and Colorado State .

The Aggies began play in 1893 and have won 27 conference championships, including 6 in the Mountain West Conference. The team has also appeared in 11 bowl games throughout its history, most recently the 2015 Royal Purple Las Vegas Bowl .

In 2013, the USU football team became the first team in NCAA history to score 60 or more points in four consecutive games.

The Aggies are currently coached by Matt Wells , who was hired on December 10, 2012. Wells had previously served as the offensive coordinator at the University of Oklahoma .

On September 3, 2016, Utah State defeated Weber State , 73–19. This win marked the 600th win in school history and broke the previous record of 599 wins, set by BYU .

The Aggies have a long-standing rivalry with the BYU Cougars . The two teams have met 103 times, with BYU holding a 61–40–2 lead. Another rival is Utah , against whom the Aggies have played 97 times. Utah holds a 57–37–4 advantage in the series. Colorado State is also a rival, and the two teams have met 77 times. CSU leads the series 38–30–9.

In recent years, the Aggies have had success against Power Five opponents. In 2012, they defeated Utah , 27–21, in Salt Lake City. In 2013, they beat USC , 17–14, in Los Angeles. In 2014, they defeated BYU , 35–20, in Provo. In 2015, they beat Colorado , 27–24, in Fort Collins.

The Aggies have had 11 players inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame , including Merlin Olsen , Stan Noskin , and Mike Barber .

The team has also had four Heisman Trophy finalists: Marshall Teague in 1960, Phil Olsen in 1970, Bruce Smith in 1991, and Kevin Smith in 1993. Utah State has produced two NFL MVPs: Merlin Olsen (1974) and Stan Noskin (1982).

The Aggies have had 28 first-team All-Americans , 70 Academic All-Americans , 12 Football Hall of Famers , 29 All-Americans , and four Heisman Trophy finalists.
