The University of Southern California Trojans football program, formerly known as the "Fighting Methodists," is a member of the Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS) of the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) and the South Division of the Pac-12 Conference (Pac-12). The Trojans began to play in 1888 and have won 12 national championships, 38 conference championships, and six Division I-A (now FBS) bowl games. USC has produced 7 Heisman Trophy winners, 81 first-team All-Americans, and 500 NFL draft picks. The Trojans currently have the most players in the NFL of any college football program. The Trojans play their home games at the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum, which they have called home since 1923.
The Coliseum is one of the largest stadiums in college football and can seat over 93,000 fans. The Trojans have a heated rivalry with the UCLA Bruins and also compete against other top programs such as Notre Dame, Oregon, and Stanford. Their real triumphs started when Howard Jones became the head coach in 1925. In 1960, the legendary John McKay stepped into the role of the head coach and was later inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame. In 2001, Coach Pete Carroll assumed the role of the head coach and instantly guided the Trojans to successive championships over the next couple of years.
