The Idaho Vandals are a college football team from the University of Idaho that plays its home games at the Kibbie Dome, an indoor sports arena on campus in Moscow, Idaho. The Football Championship Subdivision's University of Idaho is a member of the Big Sky Conference. In 2022, Jason Eck will take over as head coach after Paul Petrino (2013–2021).
The Idaho Vandals have a long and storied history dating back to the late 19th century. The team was founded in 1893 and began to play in 1894. The Vandals have won 14 conference championships, including 13 in the Big Sky Conference, and have made nine appearances in the NCAA Division I Football Championship, most recently in 2018. Idaho has also produced two Heisman Trophy winners, quarterbacks Doug Flutie (1984) and Steve Filipowicz (1986).
The Vandals have a long-standing rivalry with the Montana Grizzlies, and the two teams have played each other 106 times since 1900. The Battle of the Palouse, as it is commonly known, is one of the oldest and most-played rivalries in all of college football. The Vandals also have a rivalry with the Boise State Broncos, whom they play annually for the Governor's Trophy.
Idaho has had success on the gridiron in recent years, winning nine games in both the 2009 and 2010 seasons. In 2011, the Vandals won their first conference championship in over two decades and followed that up with another conference title in 2012.
