About Florida State Seminoles Football

The athletic team of Florida State University in Tallahassee, Florida is the Seminoles. Since the 1991–92 season, they have competed as a member of the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division I level (FBS sub-level for football), except for football, where they played in the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) and Atlantic Division.  Florida State University's intercollegiate sports teams participate in the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA)'s Division I, and in the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) for all sports since July 1991, after having competed in the now-defunct Metro Conference. The Seminoles athletic program is perhaps best known for its football team, which has participated in 49 bowl games, winning 31. The Florida State Seminoles Football team has also won 18 NCAA Division I team national championships: nine in women's swimming and diving, six in men's track and field, one in softball, and two in co-ed fencing. 

Florida State University has many traditions associated with its sports teams. The school colors of Florida State University are garnet and gold. The school's nickname is the Seminoles, and the students are referred to as Seminoles. The Marching Chiefs of the Florida State University Band perform at all home games. Outstanding athletes like Charlie Ward, Chris Weinke, Jameis Winston, Deion Sanders, and Andre Wadsworth have left their mark on the history of Florida State Football. Others including Terrell Buckley, Sebastian Janikowski, and Peter Warrick are also highly acclaimed by fans. As well as Marvin Jones and Fred Biletnikoff who achieved remarkable stats during their time in college football. Similarly, renowned players such as Ron Simmons; Greg Allen;  Peter Boulware; Nick O'Leary & Roberto Aguayo also earned great recognition for FSU's team successes!

However, the conference is preparing for a potential departure, with FSU possibly being accompanied by Clemson and other schools. There are clear signs from Florida State leaders that the university is eager to depart from the ACC at the earliest opportunity possible. Last August 2023, a source from the university provided a cautious statement, indicating that there were no immediate developments. However, there are differing opinions within the league regarding this matter. Bear in mind that the realm of realignment is ever-changing, but according to various sources within the ACC, it wouldn't come as a surprise if the Seminoles officially announce their intention to move in 2024 and 2025 shortly.
