The Arizona State Sun Devils football team represents Arizona State University in American football. The NCAA Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS), formerly known as Division I-A, and the Pac-12 Conference's South Division are two of the organizations that compete at the highest level of college football. Since 1897, Arizona State University has fielded a football team. Head coach Herm Edwards leads the Sun Devils, who play their home games at Sun Devil Stadium in Tempe, Arizona. The Sun Devils have appeared in thirty-eight bowl games, posting a record of 20–17–1. Their most recent appearance came in the 2015 Cactus Bowl, in which they won 32–30 over the West Virginia Mountaineers. The Sun Devils are currently coached by Herm Edwards, who was hired on December 3, 2017. Pat Tillman was an extraordinary athlete who not only starred on the Arizona State Sun Devils football team, but he went on to play professionally in the NFL.
