The University of Utah Utes men's basketball program has a rich history and tradition of excellence. Founded in 1909, the Utes have won six NCAA tournament games, appeared in 11 NIT tournaments, and have made four Final Four appearances. Home games are played at the Jon M. Huntsman Center on campus, which is also home to their main rivals, BYU Cougars. The Utes have had some incredible head coaches throughout their history - from Jack Gardner to Rick Majerus to Larry Krystkowiak who currently holds the position today. Under Krystkowiak, the team has enjoyed plenty of success including four NCAA Tournament berths, two Conference Championships (2015 Pac-12 Championship and 2017 Pac-12 Championship), and one NCAA Division 1 Regular Season title (2016).
In addition to great coaching, Utah has featured some of the best players in college basketball. Top players include All-Americans Keith Van Horn and Andrew Bogut, both of whom are members of the College Basketball Hall of Fame; NBA stars Andre Miller and Michael Doleac; Big 12 Player of the Year Delon Wright; and current standouts Timmy Allen and Alfonso Plummer. Throughout their history on the court, the Utes have earned numerous awards including regular season championships in 1961–62 & 2015–16 as well as conference tournament titles in 1957 & 2014–15 plus The Associated Press' prestigious National Men's Basketball Coach of the Year award for Majerus during his tenure from 1989 until 2004.
