Representing The University of Texas at Austin, the renowned Texas Longhorns men's basketball team proudly competes in NCAA Division I intercollegiate competitions. The Longhorns are proudly represented in the Big 12 Conference. The proud Longhorns have claimed a remarkable 28 conference titles in men's basketball and have made 35 appearances in the NCAA tournament (11th-most of all time), with an overall record of 35-38. Additionally, they've achieved impressive feats such as advancing to the Final Four 3 times (1943, 1947, 2003) and making it to the Elite Eight on 7 occasions. On November 29th, 1977, the Texas men's basketball team opened the Frank Erwin Center with an impressive 83-76 victory over their rivals, Oklahoma Sooners. In an exciting series of home games, the team achieved two triumphant wins against their rivals - the Texas Tech Red Raiders. This marked the first time that these two schools have ever faced each other in a basketball match!
The 2019–20 season shows that Texas holds the 6th spot amongst all Division I men's basketball programs for total NCAA Tournament wins without ever attaining a national championship - 35 in total. While still impressive, it falls short of Kansas State (37), Notre Dame (38), Illinois (40), Oklahoma (42), and Purdue who hold the highest with 42 tournament wins! In 2020–21, the Longhorns won their first Big 12 tournament title, following a strong showing in a regular season. After securing the Big 12 title by overthrowing Oklahoma State, Texas endured its most infamous defeat ever in school history. Going on, the Longhorns have entered the 2022 March Madness as the No. 6 seed in the East Region. Demonstrating the team's resourcefulness and agility, the team swiftly moved to Marquette in response to mounting pressure. Now they are proud to host their games at Moody Center - their new home court!
