About Seton Hall Pirates Basketball

Seton Hall University Men's basketball program has just earned recognition as a top-notch NCAA Division I intercollegiate team, located in the popular town of South Orange, New Jersey. Competing in the Big East Conference, our team proudly takes to the court of home games at Prudential Center, located in Newark, New Jersey. After going through a turbulent five-season phase, Willard and his Pirates finally managed to make the breakthrough they were looking for in the 2015–16 season. By claiming an impressive Big East tournament Championship victory over eventual national champions Villanova Wildcats, Willard's team cemented their place amongst some of college basketball’s greatest teams. Seton Hall achieved glory with their triumph, earning the school's first NCAA Tournament appearance in 14 years and winning its first Big East tournament Championship since 1993. Unfortunately, the team's success didn't carry over into their NCAA tournament appearance as they were upset by the 11th-seeded Gonzaga Bulldogs in the opening round.

In 2017, the Pirates were unfortunately cut short in the First Round of the NCAA tournament by the Arkansas Razorbacks. But one year later, they would make history and reclaim their victory after beating NC State Wolfpack in 2018's first round—their very first win since fourteen years prior! Unfortunately, that streak was broken when Kansas Jayhawks defeated them during Second Round. With the exit of the talented seniors Khadeen Carrington, Ángel Delgado, Desi Rodriguez, and Ismael Sanogo in 2019 came an incredible opportunity for the Pirates to make history: their fourth consecutive NCAA tournament entry. This feat had only been accomplished once before by Pirates, making it all the more impressive when they achieved success yet again! Myles Powell, a standout junior guard, led the Pirates to victory in their final two regular-season games against 16th-ranked Marquette and 23rd-ranked Villanova. This was especially impressive given that the team had been at risk of missing out on tournament play with only a 16–12 overall record and a 7–9 Big East record. Although they ended up losing by just two points in their rematch against Villanova during the Big East Final game, these victories set them up for success - which would not have otherwise been possible without Myles' leadership.

After a successful conclusion to their regular season, the team was awarded a #10 seed in the tournament and competed against Wofford Terriers. In this first-round game, Fletcher Magee broke Division I's all-time three-point scoring record which ultimately earned them an impressive victory. As part of the Big East-Big10 Gavitt Games, Seton Hall ventured to Ann Arbor, Michigan in November 2021 to face off against then #4 ranked Michigan Wolverines. It is worth mentioning that the game was the first time Michigan and Seton Hall had clashed since 1989 when Big Blue emerged victorious over The Pirates in a highly disputed NCAA National Championship Game. In 2021, Seton Hall created a historical moment when they triumphed over Michigan on the road in an AP top-five non-conference game for the first time ever! Coming off of five straight losses prior to that victory was certainly no easy feat. After displaying his incredible coaching prowess by propelling Saint Peter's to the 2022 NCAA Basketball Tournament Elite Eight, head coach Shaheen Holloway '00 returned to his alma mater and now leads as head coach. Through their spectacular performance, the Pirates have achieved one remarkable Final Four appearance and four magnificent Sweet Sixteen appearances.

The 2024 season serves as a platform for emerging stars to shine, carrying on the legacy of Seton Hall's basketball prowess. Beyond the regular season battles, the Pirates set their sights on postseason success, vying for conference titles and national recognition. The journey is led by a resilient and talented roster under the guidance of the esteemed head coach, whose strategic brilliance and leadership qualities shape the team's destiny. Seton Hall Pirates Basketball in 2024 is not merely a collection of games; it's a narrative of determination, passion, and the pursuit of excellence. Whether you're a seasoned fan or a newcomer to the Pirates' captivating journey, the 2024 events promise an unforgettable basketball experience, showcasing the indomitable spirit of Seton Hall on the hardwood.
