Established as a founding member of the original Big East Conference back in 1979, they continue to uphold this legacy after joining their conference in 2013. The Amica Mutual Pavilion in Providence, Rhode Island is where they play their home games. Ed Cooley has been their head coach since 2011. The Friars have achieved two remarkable trips to the Final Four of the NCAA Division I men's basketball tournament, once in 1973 and again in 1987. Four renowned icons - Dave Gavitt, John Thompson, Rick Pitino, and Lenny Wilkens- have attained a prestigious place in the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame for their accomplishments as players or coaches.
