The North Dakota State Bison Football program is a powerhouse in college football and has been for over a century. Founded in 1894, the Bison have competed in NCAA Division I Football Championship Subdivision since 1978 and are currently part of the Missouri Valley Football Conference. Home games for the Bison are played at Fargodome, located on the campus of North Dakota State University. Over the years, the team has developed several rivalries with other teams in their conference, including South Dakota State, Northern Iowa, and Illinois State. The Bison have won numerous awards throughout their history, including eight FCS National Championships and 11 conference titles. The team also boasts an impressive list of former players who went on to play professionally in the NFL or CFL, including Carson Wentz, Kyle Emanuel, and Bruce Anderson. Currently leading the program is head coach Matt Entz who took over in 2018 after Chris Klieman left for Kansas State.
Under Entz’s leadership, the Bison have continued to be one of the top programs in all of college football as they have won two national championships and three MVFC titles over his three-year tenure. The Bison are led by some of college football's top players such as quarterback Trey Lance who was named First Team All-MVFC last season after throwing for 2,786 yards and 28 touchdowns while rushing for 1,100 yards; running back Adam Cofield who rushed for 1,086 yards and 12 touchdowns last season; wide receiver Christian Watson who had 806 receiving yards last season; linebacker Jackson Hankey who led all defenders with 81 tackles; and cornerback Marquise Bridges who had four interceptions last season. As they look ahead to the 2023 season, North Dakota State Football will be looking to continue their success from recent years while also building on their rich history of excellence.
