In the 2018-2019 season, there was a remarkable turnaround for DePaul as they ended the year with an impressive 19-17 overall record. Under Coach Leitao's guidance during his fourth season at the helm of the team, he propelled them to compete in and reach runner-up status in the post-season tournament 2019 College Basketball Invitational. Despite winning Game 2 against South Florida Bulls, ultimately their series victory was thwarted by dropping Games 1 and 3 consecutively to give DePaul a silver medal finish.
