The BYU Cougars basketball team has a long, illustrious history dating back to 1902. The program is one of the most successful in the nation and has produced some of the greatest college basketball players in history. The team plays its home games at the Marriott Center on the campus of Brigham Young University in Provo, Utah. BYU's main rivals include Utah, Weber State, and New Mexico State. BYU holds a record of three NCAA Tournament Final Four appearances and seven Sweet Sixteen appearances. They have been Conference Champions 13 times overall with multiple championships in both the WAC and Mountain West Conferences. Throughout their long history, numerous legendary BYU players have come up through the Cougar ranks. Danny Ainge is by far the most famous of all former Cougars as he went on to a long NBA career and is now an integral part of Boston Celtics management.
Other notable alumni include Devin Durrant, Kresimir Cosic, Jimmer Fredette, Ty Detmer, Shawn Bradley, and Brandon Davies. In recent years, BYU Basketball continues to rank among the top programs nationally while also having productive runs in conference play under coach Dave Rose leading up to his retirement after the 2019-20 season due to health issues. Current coach Mark Pope has worked hard since replacing Rose and looks to keep building on what was built over more than a century of Cougar Basketball tradition. With a vibrant fanbase cheering them on each night at home games and loads of talented alumni watching from every corner of the world it seems that a very bright future ahead for the BYU hoops program as they look towards even greater heights!
