Representing Boston University with proud distinction, the Terriers men's ice hockey team proudly upholds its legacy of success on the frozen rink. Since their inception in 1918, they have experienced great success with five national titles and an impressive 22 Frozen Four showings. Boston University's hockey team has been triumphant in 12 conference tournament championships, as well as 31 prestigious Beanpot titles – a competition between four of the most renowned Boston collegiate teams. In 1971, Boston University ceased hosting home games in the ancient Boston Arena because of their new Walter Brown Arena. From 1961 to 1984, Boston University was a part of the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) and proudly won five tournament titles.
Since then, BU has been competing in the Hockey East Association where they've achieved an incredible seven championships! Ice hockey is beloved by Boston University's devoted student body, as well as BU alumni who fanatically follow their alma mater across the country. In recognition of all their accomplishments from the previous season, BU kicked off this year with a celebratory banner-raising ceremony to honor their Beanpot, Hockey East, and NCAA championship titles. Despite their enthusiasm and optimism, the Terriers faced a discouraging season this year. They lost six out of eight opening games, ultimately achieving an 18-17-3 record that was insufficient to qualify for NCAA tournament contention.
After a less-than-stellar start to the season, BU's second half was exceptional. In particular, their game against Boston College at Fenway Park - one of nine wins in twelve games - stood out as something special and truly unforgettable. Unfortunately, the Terriers' efforts to defend their national championship ended following losses in both the Beanpot tournament title game against BC and Maine in the Hockey East tournament semifinals. During the 1980 Olympic Games in Lake Placid, New York, the 'The Miracle on Ice' team conquered the Soviet Union and proudly took home a gold medal. Four players from Boston University had joined this triumphant lineup, with Mike Eruzione, Jack Eichel, and Keith Tkachuk leading as Captain of The Miracle Team!
