During Sendek's first four seasons with Arizona State, he was able to take the Sun Devils to three consecutive 20-win campaigns, culminating in an appearance at the 2009 Pac-10 conference tournament finals and a spot in both the second round of the 2009 NCAA tournament and 2014 NCAA tournament. Under Hurley's direction, the Sun Devils have experienced tremendous success and earned a place in both the 2018 and 2019 NCAA Tournaments. Boasting a 3-seed and first-round bye, the Sun Devils were poised to take on Washington State in the Pac-12 Conference men's basketball tournament when tragedy struck. Although no seedings were revealed by the NCAA for this unfortunate event, ESPN's Joe Lunardi suggested that in his end-of-season "Bracketology", Arizona State University would have been a 9-seed. After a 56-year hiatus, this was the opportunity for Arizona State Sun Devils to make history and become part of an exclusive group by making it into the tournament three years in a row. Aside from Scott, Lister, and Lever, Arizona State has been successful in producing NBA-level talent such as James Harden, Lionel Hollins, Ike Diogu, Eddie House and Jeff Pendergraph.
