The Trenton Thunder is a collegiate summer baseball team of the MLB Draft League that has been playing in the league since 2021. The team is based out of Trenton, New Jersey, and plays its home games at Arm & Hammer Park. The Thunder have become one of the most successful teams in the league, having won three consecutive championships and four total championships in their history. The team has also developed rivalries with other teams in their conference, such as the Staten Island Yankees and Brooklyn Cyclones. The Thunder are led by Head Coach Brian Daubach who took over the program in 2020 after a successful stint as manager of the Pawtucket Red Sox. Under his leadership, the Thunder have quickly become one of the most competitive teams in their conference, winning three consecutive championships from 2021-2023. The team is also led by some of college baseball’s top players including outfielder Jhonny Peralta who was named First Team All-MLB Draft League last season after hitting .297 with 10 home runs and 43 RBIs catcher/infielder Andrew Vaughn who hit .322 with 11 home runs and 50 RBIs.
It also includes pitcher Ryan Weathers who had a 3.62 ERA with 80 strikeouts; and third baseman Austin Riley who hit .290 with 12 home runs and 54 RBIs. In addition to their on-field success, the Thunder also take pride in their commitment to academic excellence off the field. In 2020, for example, they had a team GPA of 3.5 which ranked among the highest in all of college baseball. They also boast an impressive list of former players who went on to play professionally in Major League Baseball or Minor League Baseball, including Jake Cave, Tyler White, and Jeff McNeil. As they look ahead to the 2023 season, Trenton Thunder will be looking to continue their success from recent years while also building towards another championship run this year.
