The Stockton Ports are a Minor League Baseball team of the California League and the Single-A affiliate of the Oakland Athletics. The Ports have been playing professional baseball in Stockton since 1941, making them one of the oldest teams in the league. They play their home games at Banner Island Ballpark, located on the waterfront in downtown Stockton. Throughout their history, the Ports have had numerous rivalries with other teams in their conference such as Modesto Nuts and Visalia Rawhide. The Ports have achieved great success over the years, having won three California League championships (1981, 2005, and 2007). In addition to these titles, they have also earned numerous awards throughout their history including two Manager of the Year awards (1990 and 2014) and two Player of the Year awards (2003 and 2011). Currently leading the program is head coach Ryan Christenson who took over in 2020 after Steve Scarsone left for Oakland Athletics.
Christenson has already made his mark on the program by leading them to a winning record in his first season as head coach. The Ports are led by some of Minor League Baseball's top players such as outfielder Skye Bolt who was named MVP of both CAL League and Arizona Fall League last season; pitcher Daulton Jefferies who was named Pitcher of Year for CAL League last year; shortstop Nick Allen who led all batters with a .340 batting average; third baseman Miguelangel Sierra who hit 10 home runs last season; and catcher Jonah Heim who had 42 RBIs last year. As they look ahead to 2024 events, Stockton Ports will be looking to continue their success from recent years while also building on their rich history of excellence. With a talented roster full of experienced veterans and promising newcomers alike, there is no doubt that this team will be competitive once again this year as they strive to bring another championship back to Stockton.
