The Northwest Arkansas Naturals are a Minor League Baseball team based in Springdale, Arkansas. The team, which plays in the Texas League, is the Double-A affiliate of the Kansas City Royals. The Naturals play their home games at Arvest Ballpark. Before 2008, the franchise was known as the Wichita Wranglers. In January 2007, it was announced that the Wranglers would move to Springdale, Arkansas, and become the Northwest Arkansas Naturals. The Northwest Arkansas Naturals baseball team began to play in 2008 at Arvest Ballpark. In 2009, the Naturals won the Texas League championship. On August 30, 2010, the Naturals played host to the 2010 Texas League All-Star Game. In 2012, the Naturals were the Texas League's North Division first-half champions. They went on to defeat the Arkansas Travelers 3 games to 1 in the divisional playoff series. In the Championship Series, they defeated the Midland RockHounds 3 games to 0 to win their second Texas League title in three years.
In 2014, the NWA minor league baseball won the first half North Division title but was defeated by the Springfield Cardinals in the divisional playoff series. In 2015, the Naturals again won the first half North Division title. They went on to defeat the Tulsa Drillers in the divisional playoff series and then swept the Midland RockHounds in the Championship Series to win their third Texas League title. In 2016, the NWA Naturals won the North Division first-half title for the fourth time in six years. Northwest Naturals baseball went on to defeat the Springfield Cardinals in the divisional playoff series and then swept the Arkansas Travelers in the Championship Series to win their fourth Texas League title. The Northwest Arkansas Naturals Baseball are four-time Texas League Champions (2009, 2012, 2015, 2016) and have won six division titles (2008, 2009, 2010, 2011, 2015, 2016).
In the top of the 10th inning last August 2023 afternoon at Arvest Ballpark in Springdale, Patrick Winkel's clutch one-out, RBI double broke an 8-8 tie. This pivotal hit propelled Wichita to a hard-fought one-run victory over Northwest Arkansas, securing a 4-2 series win for the Wind Surge. In the bottom of the 10th inning, the Naturals found themselves with runners on first and second base and no outs. However, their hopes were dashed as Isaac Matson (3-1) skillfully managed to retire the next three batters, ultimately bringing an end to the game. Morgan McCullough and Javier Vaz both faced strikeouts, and the game came to a close as Tyler Tolbert's fly ball was caught. Despite being down 3-1, the Naturals managed to take a commanding 6-3 lead with an impressive five-run rally in the bottom of the sixth inning. However, their momentum was short-lived as they surrendered five runs to the Wind Surge in the top of the seventh.
