The Lake County Captains have been a part of the Midwest League since 2003, when they arrived in Eastlake, Ohio. With a long and storied history of success, the Captains have become one of the most successful teams in the league. The team plays their home games at Classic Park, located on the shores of Lake Erie. Over the years, they have developed several rivalries with other teams in their division, including Dayton Dragons and Fort Wayne TinCaps. The Captains have won numerous awards throughout their history, including two Midwest League championships and six playoff appearances. They also boast an impressive list of former players who went on to play professionally in Major League Baseball (MLB), including Francisco Lindor, Carlos Carrasco, and Shane Bieber. Currently leading the program is head coach Rouglas Odor who took over in 2020 after Tony Mansolino left for the Cincinnati Reds organization.
Odor has already made his mark on the program by leading them to a winning record in his first season as head coach and earning Manager of the Year honors from both Midwest League and Minor League Baseball (MiLB). The Captains are led by some of baseball's top prospects such as infielder Nolan Jones who was named First Team All-Midwest League last season after batting .279 with 15 home runs; outfielder Will Benson who had 11 home runs last year; pitcher Triston McKenzie who posted a 3.24 ERA; catcher Bo Naylor who had 14 RBIs; and shortstop Brayan Rocchio who batted .302 with nine stolen bases last season. As they look ahead to the 2024 season, Lake County Captains will be looking to continue their success from recent years while also building on their rich history of excellence.
