The Bowling Green Hot Rods baseball has been a staple of the Minor League Baseball scene since 2009. Based in Bowling Green, Kentucky, they are the High-A affiliate of the Tampa Bay Rays and play in the South Atlantic League. The team is known for its unique mascot, Axle Roscoe, who is a hot rod racecar driver that wears an old-timey racing suit and helmet. Home games are played at Bowling Green Ball Park which was built in 2008 and has a capacity of 8,000 fans. Throughout their history, the BG Hot Rods MILB have forged several rivalries with other teams in their division such as the Lakewood BlueClaws and Greensboro Grasshoppers. The team is led by some of college baseball’s top players such as catcher Ronaldo Hernandez who was named SAL Player of the Year last season after batting .331 with 19 homers; shortstop Taylor Walls who hit .293 with 11 homers; outfielder Josh Lowe who hit .288 with nine homers; pitcher Shane Baz who posted a 3.12 ERA in 14 starts; and pitcher Joe Ryan who posted a 2.56 ERA in 17 starts last season. As they look ahead to 2023 events at Bowling Green Ballpark, there’s no doubt that this team will be competitive once again this year as they strive to bring another championship back home to Bowling Green.
