The Windy City ThunderBolts are a professional baseball club based in Crestwood, Illinois, in the United States. The ThunderBolts are members of the East Division of the Frontier League, an independent baseball league that is not affiliated with Major League Baseball. The team plays its home games at Standard Bank Stadium.
The ThunderBolts were founded in 1995 as the Zion Pioneers, and they played their home games at Zion Memorial Park. In 1999, the team has renamed the Zephyrs, and in 2003, they moved to their current home ballpark in Crestwood. The team was renamed the ThunderBolts in 2006.
The ThunderBolts have won two Frontier League championships, in 2008 and 2013.
On August 26, 2007, the ThunderBolts won their first Central Division title. They clinched the title with a 5-2 win over the Windy City Cubs. The team finished the season with a 52-40 record.
In 2008, the ThunderBolts finished the regular season in first place with a 54-38 record. They defeated the Southern Illinois Miners in the first round of the playoffs, and they defeated the Rockford RiverHawks in the championship series to win the Frontier League title.
In 2009, the ThunderBolts finished the season with a 50-42 record. They lost to the RiverHawks in the first round of the playoffs.
In 2010, the ThunderBolts finished the season with a 49-43 record. They defeated the Miners in the first round of the playoffs, but they lost to the RiverHawks in the championship series.
In 2013, the ThunderBolts finished the season with a 50-42 record. They defeated the RiverHawks in the first round of the playoffs, and they defeated the Miners in the championship series to win their second Frontier League title.
In 2015, the ThunderBolts finished the season with a 49-43 record. They lost to the RiverHawks in the first round of the playoffs.
Assistant General Manager Mike VerShave was named the club's new general manager on April 23, 2019. VerShave had been with the team since 2013.
