The Madison Mallards are a Northwoods League summer baseball team based in Madison, Wisconsin. The Mallards play their home games at Warner Park on the city's near west side. They are named after the city's mallard ducks, which inhabit the nearby lakes.
The Mallards were founded in 1994 as an expansion team of the Northwoods League. The team's first game was played on May 31, 1995, against the Eau Claire Express. The Mallards won the game 10-9, and finished the season with a record of 29-29.
In 1996, the Mallards moved into their current home, Warner Park. The park is named after former Madison mayor Paul Soglin, who was instrumental in getting the park built.
The Mallards have been one of the most successful teams in the Northwoods League, winning six league championships. They have also set several attendance records, including the league's single-game record of 10,062 people, set on July 3, 2001.
The Mallards are owned by Big Top Baseball, LLC, a group of investors led by Wisconsin native Mike Zimmerman. Zimmerman also owns the Eau Claire Express, another Northwoods League team.
The Mallards are managed by Donny Scott, who is in his fourth season with the team. Scott played minor league baseball for six years, including two seasons with the Mallards.
