Winnipeg Ice is a member of the Western Hockey League (WHL). The team was founded in 2018 and began to play in the 2019-20 season. They are based out of Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada. The Winnipeg Ice have developed a fierce rivalry with other teams in the WHL's East Division, particularly their provincial rivals, Brandon Wheat Kings and Regina Pats. Fans eagerly await their home games whenever they travel to MTS Centre to watch the action on the ice. In their inaugural seasons, the Winnipeg Ice went on to win four medals in three years: two bronze medal finishes during the 2019–20 and 2020–21 regular seasons and a gold medal finish during the 2021 WHL playoffs. The team also had two first-round picks come through their roster; Braden Schneider 19th overall for the 2020 NHL draft as well as Seth Jarvis who was selected 9th overall by Carolina Hurricanes in 2020.
Throughout their short history, pathbreaking players like Rylan Toth and Nolan Orzeck have proudly represented Winnipeg Ice's uniform. Toth made headlines when he became only the fourth goaltender in league history to be named WHL goaltender of the year back in the 2018-19 season while Orzeck’s unquestioned leadership earned him the “Ace” award for best captain in the 2018-2019 season. The Ice’s ability to develop elite players has caught the attention of scouts all over North America who have touted Winnipeg boy Mason Millman as a top prospect this season with big potential at the National level.
