Representing Cape Breton, the Eagles are one of the premier teams in all of the Quebec Major Junior Ice Hockey League (QMJHL). In Sydney, Nova Scotia, Canada lies their preferred home rink: Centre 200. The Sorel Éperviers (Black Hawks) were granted the franchise to enter the 1969–70 season. In 1977, the Verdun Éperviers transitioned from Sorel to settle in Verdun and remain there since. In 1979, the team traded between Sorel and Verdun before settling in Sorel for their next season. In 1981, the team relocated to Granby and renamed themselves the Granby Bisons. Fourteen years later in 1995, they reshaped their identity by transforming into the Granby Prédateurs. In 1996, the Prédateurs proudly claimed the esteemed Memorial Cup championship title. In 1997, the franchise was moved to Sydney and rebranded as the Cape Breton Screaming Eagles.
In 2007, the Cape Breton team was shattered when they lost their third-round series against the Val d'Or Foreurs in an agonizing 4-3 defeat. Before the Eagles descended upon Sydney, the city was home to the American Hockey League's Cape Breton Oilers from 1988-1996. On the 14th of August 2019, the team underwent a transformation and adopted a new identity as the Cape Breton Eagles. On November 30, 2021, due to personal matters, head coach Jake Grimes stepped down from his position. In the end, he concluded his tenure with a triumphant 46–34–0–7 record during one and a half seasons with the club. Unfortunately, his winning streak had begun to wane as he started off the 2021-22 season 6–14–0-4. After nearly two months with an interim head coach, the Eagles finally found their match in Chadd Cassidy and hired him on January 7th of 2022. Rivals: Saint John Sea Dogs.
