Established in 2009 as the Missouri Mavericks of the Central Hockey League, they entertain fans at Cable Dahmer Arena located in Independence, Missouri - just outside of Kansas City. He had previously been with the Southern Professional Hockey League's Knoxville Ice Bears and during his tenure there he led them to two consecutive President’s Cup titles as well as earned two Coffey Trophies for acquiring the most regular-season points. On the auspicious date of November 13, 2009, the team welcomed their home opener in front of a cheering audience of 5,760 people at Independence Events Center. On September 17, 2011, the Mavericks announced a partnership with the Chicago Wolves of the American Hockey League for that season. This successful collaboration continued to reap great rewards and was renewed annually up until 2015. On May 24, 2012, the Mavericks decided to keep Scott Hillman at the helm of their team by extending his contract for an additional two years until the end of the 2013-14 season. On July 31, 2012, the Mavericks revealed an agreement with Entercom to broadcast all 66 games for their 2012-13 season on 1660 KUDL. Subsequently, five years later on March 11th, 2017 it was announced that the team would be renamed from the Missouri Mavericks to Kansas City Mavericks starting in their upcoming 2017–18 season. Before the 2017-18 season, their partnership with the Islanders concluded as that team joined forces with Worcester Railers. In its place, Kansas City established a connection with Calgary Flames (NHL) and Stockton Heat (AHL), agreed upon on June 8th of 2017. On January 30, 2020, after four seasons as head coach and with the team mired in last place of their division, Dickson was relieved from his post. Subsequently, at the season's end, Dallas Mavericks welcomed Tad O'Had - previous assistant of Florida Everblades - to assume the position of head coach. On July 28, 2022, the Mavericks proudly announced their partnership with Seattle Kraken and its AHL team, the Coachella Valley Firebirds. One of their rivals includes the Iowa Heartlanders. In 2024, the Kansas City Mavericks experienced a transformative year both on and off the court, solidifying their status as a dynamic force in the hockey world.
