The Allen Americans, a professional ice hockey team based in the Credit Union of Texas Event Center at Allen, TX, proudly competes in the ECHL. Established in 2009, the team joined the Central Hockey League (CHL) and played for five successful seasons, claiming two triumphant Ray Miron President's Cup titles along the way. In 2014, the CHL ceased operations and fortunately, the ECHL welcomed its remaining squads as members of their association in the subsequent season. Under the leadership of President Jonny Mydra and Head Coach/General Manager Chad Costello, Allen achieved remarkable success during their first two seasons in the ECHL. Not only did they make it to the Kelly Cup finals both years but also managed to win championships for both. On February 23, 2017, the ECHL made an announcement that ownership of the Americans had been transferred from the Stevens brothers to Allen Hockey Team LLC.
Jack Gulati was at its helm and he is also currently a part-owner of Reading Royals. As part of the shift, Gulati intended to refresh the branding of this team in order to encompass a more comprehensive representation of Dallas-Fort Worth while still preserving its name - 'Americans' - and home games at Allen Events Center. From March 31 to June 30, 2017, the organization ran a name-the-team competition. Sadly, by the end of the 2017–18 season, no further announcements were made on this matter. In the 2018-2019 season, the Allen Americans kicked off their partnership with the Minnesota Wild. In the aftermath of their 2018–19 season, the Americans experienced a historic first: they failed to make it past the playoffs. In July 2019, owner Gulati declared the sale of his team prior to the 2019–20 season due to health issues in his family. He believed it was better for a local group or individual rather than himself as an absentee proprietor to own the club. He emphatically declared that if the team wasn't sold before the season began, he would not sell it during its course.
Ahead of the COVID-19 pandemic that ultimately brought an abrupt end to the 2019–20 season, the Americans were once again atop their division with a stellar record of 40 wins and 14 losses - a testament to their unwavering commitment and excellence. Steve Martinson was honored as the General Manager of the Year, and Alex Breton (defenseman) and Tyler Sheehy (forward) both earned spots on the prestigious All-ECHL First Team. The Americans were among the fourteen ECHL teams that chose to play during the disrupted 2020–21 season, which was delayed due to the pandemic. Despite snagging the top seed in the Western Conference, their dreams of 2021 Kelly Cup glory were dashed when they suffered a heartbreaking defeat at the hands of the Fort Wayne Komets in the conference finals. Making history, the Americans became the first ECHL affiliate of the newly established Seattle Kraken in the 2021–22 season. On August 24th, 2022, the American hockey team proudly declared they had signed an agreement to join forces with both the Ottawa Senators of the NHL and their AHL affiliate - The Belleville Senators - as ECHL affiliates.
