About Ottawa Redblacks

The Ottawa Redblacks are a professional Canadian football team based in Ottawa, Ontario. The team plays in the East Division of the Canadian Football League (CFL). The Redblacks are the third CFL team to play in the city. The Ottawa Rough Riders, formed in 1876, were a founding member of the CFL in 1958 and played until 1996. A new Ottawa franchise was formed as the Renegades in 2002, but ceased operations after the 2005 season. The Ottawa
Redblacks started playing in 2014. They are owned by Jeff Hunt, the owner of the Ottawa Sports and Entertainment Group (OSEG).

The Redblacks play their home games at TD Place Stadium, which opened in 2014 on the site of the former Frank Clair Stadium. The stadium is located in Lansdowne Park, which is also home to several other sports and cultural venues.

The Redblacks are coached by Rick Campbell and general manager Marcel Desjardins. They are currently the defending Grey Cup champions, having won the 106th Grey Cup in 2018.

As of 2019, the Ottawa Redblacks have appeared in three Grey Cup finals, winning two of them. They won their first Grey Cup championship in 2016, defeating the Calgary Stampeders 39–33 in overtime. They defeated the Calgary Stampeders 27–16 in the 106th Grey Cup. This was the first time that a team had won back-to-back Grey Cup championships since the Toronto Argonauts did it in 1996 and 1997.

The Redblacks hold several CFL records. They are the only team to have won two Grey Cups in a row after having never won one before. They are also the only team to have won a Grey Cup in their first three seasons of existence.

The Redblacks play an annual pre-season game against the Toronto Argonauts, dubbed the "Battle of the QEW". The game is played at TD Place Stadium, alternating between Ottawa and Toronto each year.

The Redblacks also play an annual game against the Montreal Alouettes, dubbed the "Battle of Ontario". The game is usually played at TD Place Stadium, but has been played in Montreal on occasion.

In 2018, the CFL announced that the Redblacks would host the 107th Grey Cup in 2019. This will be the third time that Ottawa has hosted the Grey Cup, and the first time since 2004.

The Redblacks have a number of supporters groups, including the Capital supporter group and the Bytown Boys supporter group.

The team's official mascot is Big Joe Mufferaw.

In 2019, the Redblacks will retire the number of running back William Powell. He will become the first player to have his number retired by the team.

The Redblacks are currently the most successful professional sports team in Ottawa, having won two Grey Cup championships in three years. They are also the only team from Ottawa to have won a championship since the Ottawa Senators won the Stanley Cup in 1927.
