The Oregon Ducks Women's Basketball team has been a mainstay in college basketball for decades. The Ducks, who play their home games at Matthew D. Knight Arena and on the road, have developed several rivalries over the years including with teams like USC and Stanford. During their history, the Ducks have made multiple NCAA Tournament appearances and won two Pac-10 Conference Championships, in 2000 and 2003. The Ducks have also produced some of the best women's basketball players in the country. Among them is Michelle Smith an All-American center who attended Oregon from 1997 to 2001; Amanda Johnson, an All-American guard best known for her stellar 3-point shooting ability; and Shaquala Williams, a slashing guard who was named first-team All-Pac 10 during her senior year in 2004. The Oregon Ducks Women's Basketball program has experienced both success and disappointment during its time as a powerhouse in college hoops.
In 2003 they fell just short of making it to their first-ever Final Four, losing to eventual champion Connecticut by just two points in overtime of the Sweet 16. They would finally make it to that elusive milestone eight years later when they reached the Final Four of the 2011 NCAA Tournament led by stars such as Joanna Grymek and Nia Jackson. In 2015, Coach Paul Westhead took over coaching duties from Kelly Graves leading Oregon into its most successful era yet. His up-tempo style offense propelled Oregon to five consecutive NCAA Tournaments from 2016-2020 including three Sweet 16 appearances (2016, 2017 & 2020), two Elite Eight appearances (2018 & 2019), and one Final Four appearance (2019). This run included menor signing call-timeless such as Sabrina Ionescu who ultimately became college basketball’s all-time triple-double leader while setting numerous records along the way en route to being drafted first overall by the New York Liberty in the WNBA draft 2020.
