The Hamilton Honey Badgers are a professional basketball team based in Brampton, Ontario, and they compete in the Canadian Elite Basketball League. Founded in 2019, the Honey Badgers have quickly become one of the most successful teams in the league, winning two consecutive championships in their first two seasons. The team plays its home games at Powerade Centre in Brampton and has developed several rivalries with other teams within their conference, including London Lightning, Guelph Nighthawks, and Niagara River Lions. The Honey Badgers have won numerous awards throughout their short history, including back-to-back Honey Badgers CEBL Championships in 2019 and 2020. They also boast an impressive list of former players who went on to play professionally, such as Joel Friesen and Grandy Glaze. Currently leading the program is head coach Charles Kissi who took over from Jesse Tipping after the 2020 season.
Under Kissi’s leadership, the Honey Badgers have continued to excel on the court and are looking forward to another exciting season in 2023. The team is led by some of Canada’s top players such as guard Aaron Best who was named First Team All-CEBL last season after averaging 18 points per game; forward Grandy Glaze who was named MVP of the 2020 CEBL Finals; forward Joel Friesen who had 17 points per game last season; center Ryan Ejim who had 8 rebounds per game last season; and guard Trey Kell who had 4 assists per game last season. As they look ahead to the 2023 season, Hamilton Honey Badgers will be looking to continue their success from recent years while also building on their already impressive legacy. With a talented roster full of experienced veterans and promising newcomers alike, there is no doubt that this team will be competitive once again this year as they strive for another championship title for Brampton.
Off the court, the Honey Badgers organization is just as impressive. In addition to providing entertainment and excitement for fans throughout Ontario, they are also committed to giving back to their community through various outreach initiatives such as working with local charities to provide food and clothing to those in need or volunteering at children's hospitals. The team also takes pride in maintaining an impressive level of academic achievement among its players with 35 members earning spots on the American Athletic Conference (AAC) All-Academic Team for 2020 alone.
