Eastern Michigan Eagles Women's Basketball is one of the most storied teams in NCAA history. The program was founded in 1977 and since then has become a powerhouse in the conference, regularly competing for conference championships and making NCAA tournament appearances. Located in Ypsilanti, Michigan, Eastern Michigan University Women's Basketball plays its home games at historic Bowen Field House on campus. The team has a long-standing rivalry with Central Michigan, dubbed the "Battle of the Basin". This rivalry dates back to 1978 and is always an electric atmosphere when these two teams meet up. Throughout the years, the women's basketball program has had many great players who have gone on to have outstanding careers after they left EMU. Some of those notable players are Kiana Brown, Taylor Perry, Tyia Robinson, and Cha Sweeney all of whom earned All-American honors during their time with the Eagles.
Eastern Michigan Eagles Women's Basketball has achieved multiple milestones over its 40-year existence including seven MAC Championships (1989–91; 1994; 1997–98; 2001), 11 MAC West Division Championships (1988–89; 1994–96; 1998–2001) and seventeen postseason appearances (1989–91; 1994–2001). In addition to this success within their own conference, they have made five NCAA tournament appearances (1990-91; 1993–94; 1997-98) which included Sweet 16 Teams in 1989-90 and 1990-91! In 2020 Eastern Michigan Eagles Women's Basketball achieved another milestone when they reached the No. 21 ranking in both AP Poll and USA Today Coaches Poll. With strong leadership from Head Coach Fred Castro who is entering his 6th season at EMU, there is no doubt that this team will continue to make waves across NCAA basketball!
