More recently, in 2006, unranked Kansas knocked off then-No. 1 Florida 74-71 in overtime in what was one of the most significant upsets in tournament history. The Classic has also been home to some of college basketball's greatest players and coaches over the years. John Wooden, Dean Smith, Denny Crum, Rick Pitino, and Tom Izzo are just a few of the legendary coaches who have taken part in the event. And players such as Michael Jordan, Patrick Ewing, Clyde Drexler, and Earvin "Magic" Johnson have all played in the tournament early in their collegiate careers.
