The North Carolina State Wolfpack baseball team is the varsity intercollegiate baseball program of North Carolina State University, based in Raleigh, North Carolina. The Wolfpack has been a member of the Atlantic Coast Conference since its founding in 1954 and is one of the most successful teams in the conference. The team plays its home games at Doak Field at Dail Park, located on campus. Over the years, NC State has developed rivalries with other ACC teams such as Duke and UNC-Chapel Hill. The Wolfpack have won numerous awards throughout their history including two ACC Championships and multiple NCAA Tournament appearances. NC State is currently led by head coach Elliott Avent who took over the program in 1997. Under his leadership, the Wolfpack has become one of the top programs in college baseball with six ACC regular season championships and seven NCAA Regional appearances. The team also boasts an impressive list of former players who went on to play professionally in Major League Baseball (MLB), including Mike Caldwell, Will Clark, and Ryan Howard.
The 2023 season promises to be another exciting year for NC State baseball as they look to build off their recent success. Leading the way for the Wolfpack this year will be some of college baseball's top players such as outfielder Brett Kinneman who was named First Team All-ACC last season after hitting .321 with 14 home runs; pitcher Reid Johnston who had a 3.18 ERA last year; shortstop Jose Torres who was named Freshman All-American last season after batting .310 with 10 homers; catcher Patrick Bailey who hit .288 with 11 home runs; and third baseman Chance Shepard who had a .306 batting average last season. As they look ahead to this upcoming season, NC State will be looking to continue their success from recent years while also building on their strong tradition of excellence on and off the field. With a talented roster full of experienced veterans and promising newcomers alike, there is no doubt that this team will be competitive once again this year as they strive to bring another championship back to Raleigh.
Off the field, NC State takes great pride in its commitment to academic excellence as well as its community outreach initiatives. In 2020, for example, all 13 seniors on the team earned degrees from NC State while also maintaining an impressive collective GPA of 3.4 or higher each semester since the 2016-17 school year began – a feat that few teams can match across all levels of collegiate athletics today. Additionally, NC State’s student-athletes are heavily involved in community service projects throughout Raleigh such as visiting local hospitals and schools or helping out at food banks during times when help is needed most. The Wolfpack Baseball program is an integral part of the North Carolina State University community and provides entertainment for fans throughout Raleigh while also promoting values such as hard work, determination, and perseverance to young people throughout the region.
