The Georgia Southern Eagles Baseball team is one of the most storied programs in college baseball. Founded in 1924, the Eagles have been playing baseball for nearly a century and have become one of the most successful teams in the country. The team plays its home games at J.I. Clements Stadium, located on the Georgia Southern University campus. Over the years, the Eagles have developed several rivalries with other teams in their conference, including Appalachian State, Coastal Carolina, and Louisiana-Lafayette. The Eagles have won numerous awards throughout their history, including two NCAA Division I National Championships and five regional championships. The team also boasts an impressive list of former players who went on to play professionally in Major League Baseball (MLB), including Mark Teixeira and Kevin Millwood. Currently leading the program is head coach Rodney Hennon who took over in 2018 after Rodney Hennon left for Texas Tech University.
Hennon has already made his mark on the program by leading them to a winning record in his first season as head coach and earning Coach of the Year honors from both Sun Belt Conference and American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA). The Eagles are led by some of college baseball's top players such as pitcher Jake Usher who was named First Team All-Sun Belt last season after throwing for 82 strikeouts; outfielder Mason McWhorter who had a .348 batting average last year; shortstop Hunter Lomas who led all defenders with 66 hits; and catcher Ryan Cleveland who had four home runs last season. As they look ahead to the 2023 season, Georgia Southern Eagles Baseball will be looking to continue their success from recent years while also building on their rich history of excellence.
