  • The Toronto Marlies, a professional ice hockey team located in the city of Toronto, take part in the American Hockey League (AHL) and proudly compete as a member of the North Division within their Eastern Conference. Maple Leafs Sports & Entertainment (MLSE), the prestigious owner of several professional sports teams in Toronto, proudly owns its AHL affiliate team, The Marlies. As well as securing the city's NHL franchise, MLSE also revels in their ownership of The Marlies. For the last 15 years, their home games have taken place at Coca-Cola Coliseum. In 1978, they first entered the scene as the New Brunswick Hawks. After hopping around from St. Catharines to Newmarket and then to St. John's, the team finally settled in Toronto in 2005. As part of its relocation to Toronto, the team was aptly renamed the Marlies in honor of the former junior hockey games squad sponsored by Maple Leafs: The Toronto Marlboros. The Marlies have made it to the Calder Cup Finals in successive years, with a triumphant victory in 2018. The Rochester Americans have taken over the rivalry with Toronto's Marlies, previously held by Hamilton Bulldogs who are no longer in existence. But that doesn't mean this competition is any less powerful - both teams' parent clubs (the Buffalo Sabres and the Maple Leafs) also share a long-running rivalry between them. In 2011-12, the Marlies embarked on their most successful playoff venture since 1967 when the Leafs won the Stanley Cup. Unfortunately, they were unable to overcome the Norfolk Admirals in a gripping 4 game series and had to settle for runner-up status. In 2015–16, the Marlies experienced a major shift as five teams relocated to California - thus moving them from the Western Conference to the Eastern one. After an impressive victory over the Texas Stars in 2018's Calder Cup Final, the Marlies proudly hoisted their first-ever Calder Cup. In 2017-18, the Marlies made history after their 4-3 series win over Texas Stars in the AHL finals. This championship clinched Toronto's first professional hockey title since 1967, an incredible feat for a team that had never gone this far before. On the first day of December 2019, Greg Moore was appointed as head coach of the Marlies after Sheldon Keefe had been elevated to his new role with the Maple Leafs. Now, the Marlies are an integral part of the American Hockey League and serve as a key affiliate of Toronto Maple Leafs. In 2024, the Toronto Marlies, the American Hockey League (AHL) affiliate of the Toronto Maple Leafs, experienced a thrilling and eventful season that captivated fans and showcased the team's competitive spirit. The Marlies, known for their commitment to developing young talent, witnessed the emergence of promising prospects who demonstrated their potential on the ice. The team's dynamic playstyle and strategic coaching led to several memorable victories, securing a strong position in the AHL standings. The Marlies also engaged in community initiatives, fostering a deeper connection with their dedicated fan base. Notable events included charity drives, youth hockey clinics, and fan appreciation nights that demonstrated the organization's commitment to both athletic excellence and community engagement. The season was marked by standout performances from key players, exciting match-ups against rival teams, and a palpable sense of anticipation as the Marlies aimed for playoff success. Overall, the 2024 season was a testament to the Toronto Marlies' resilience, skill, and commitment to both player development and community involvement, leaving fans eagerly anticipating the team's future successes.
