In July 2014, Derek Laxdal replaced him; an individual who already had won a Kelly Cup championship with the Stars' ECHL associate team, the Idaho Steelheads in 2007. Moreover, Tom Gaglardi and his ownership group acquired the Stars that same year - this facilitated them to have control of their AHL affiliate from then on. On June 11, 2015, the Stars proudly unveiled their brand new logo, colors, and jerseys - perfectly aligning with that of their parent club. In 2018, the Stars resolutely marched towards the Calder Cup finals; however, they were eventually bested by Toronto Marlies in a nail-biting seven-game series. During the 2019-20 season, head coach Laxdal's talent was recognized and he advanced to Dallas Stars as assistant coach while Neil Graham took his place as Texas Stars new head coach.
