The Orlando Predators were a professional arena football team based in Orlando, Florida, and a member of the Arena Football League. Founded in 1991, the Predators were one of the founding members of the AFL and quickly became one of the league’s most successful teams. The team played their home games at Amway Center and had several rivalries with other teams in their conference, including Tampa Bay Storm, New York Dragons, and Chicago Rush. The Predators won four division championships throughout their history and even reached the ArenaBowl twice, although they failed to win either appearance. The team was led by some of arena football’s top players including quarterback Shane Stafford who threw for over 12,000 yards during his time with the Predators; wide receiver/defensive back Amarri Jackson who caught nearly 500 passes during his tenure; defensive end Jermaine Smith who recorded an impressive 45 sacks; and linebacker Torez Jones who was named Defensive Player of the Year in 2003.
The team was also coached by some notable names such as Jay Gruden who took over from Fran Papasedero in 1998 and went on to win two division titles; Doug Plank who led the team to two more division titles after taking over from Gruden in 2001; and Rob Keefe who served as head coach from 2008-2012 before leaving for another coaching position. Currently leading the program is head coach Pat O'Hara who took over in 2020 after Keefe left for another job. O'Hara has already made his mark on the program by leading them to a winning record in his first season as head coach and earning Coach of the Year honors from both Conference USA and American Football Coaches Association (AFCA). As they look ahead to 2023 events, The Orlando Predators will be looking to continue their success from recent years while also building on their rich history of excellence.
