The first episode of MasterChef Live Junior, an American hit tv cooking competition for kids aged 8 to 13, aired on Fox on September 27, 2013. Its structure is based on that of the British television program Junior MasterChef. In each episode, the young contestants compete in two or more culinary challenges. The first challenge is usually a Signature Dish Challenge, in which the home cooks must make their own dish using a given set of ingredients. The second challenge is usually a Mystery Box Challenge, in which the home cooks must make a dish using ingredients from a mystery box. The third challenge is the Invention Test, in which the home cooks must make a dish using a specific ingredient or set of ingredients. They also do cooking demonstrations in the stage production. The winner of each episode receives a white apron and is one step closer to becoming the next MasterChef Junior. The losing team or contestant is asked to nominate two people for elimination. The judges then decide who goes home. As production for MasterChef Junior's second season was about to begin, the show got its long-awaited renewal for a third installment on March 5, 2014. The highly anticipated Season 2 of the series premiered on November 4th of that same year. The show announced its third season on January 6, 2015, and the fourth season premiered to much fanfare in November of that same year. On February 9, 2017, the fifth season of our favorite show premiered. Just one year later on March 2, 2018, we were treated to the sixth installment of this amazing series. On February 13, 2019, the much-anticipated premiere of Masterchef's seventh season was announced with a two-episode special airing last March 12. On July 2019, it was happily declared that the show would be coming back for a record-breaking eighth season with Ramsay and Sánchez continuing as judges, while Oz joined them in place of Tosi. The remarkable season kicked off last March 17th, 2022. The competition was intense but ultimately it was 12-year-old Abigail who rose to the top and was crowned the winner. On top of being able to call herself the MasterChef Junior Champion for 2022, she won a $100,000 grand prize. Now the show is set to return in 2023 for its ninth season with a brand new face joining the esteemed line of judges - world-renowned chef and restaurateur Marcus Samuelsson.
