Neil deGrasse Tyson is an American astrophysicist, author, and science communicator who has made a name for himself in the scientific community. He is best known for his work on popularizing science with the public. In 1996, he became the first African-American to be appointed director of the Hayden Planetarium at the American Museum of Natural History. Since then, he has become one of the most recognizable faces in science and has been featured in numerous television shows and documentaries. Tyson’s career began as an astrophysicist studying stars and galaxies. He earned his bachelor's degree from Harvard University in 1980 and his doctorate from Columbia University in 1991.
