Silent Movie Mondays is back for its ninth season at Vancouver Civic Theatres! Since 2014, Silent Movie Mondays has been bringing classic silent films to life with live music. This series of events has become a beloved tradition in Vancouver and a must-see for any film buff. The first Silent Movie Monday event was held in 2014 and featured the iconic film, Metropolis. Since then, the series has grown exponentially and now features some of the most beloved silent films of all time such as The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari (1920), The Gold Rush (1925), and Sunrise: A Song of Two Humans (1927). In 2021, Silent Movie Mondays will be expanding its program to include two additional venues: The Orpheum Theatre and Queen Elizabeth Theatre. Both locations offer a more intimate setting than the previous venue, allowing for a truly immersive experience for moviegoers. As part of its expansion plans, Silent Movie Mondays is also introducing new programming which includes screenings of short films from local filmmakers as well as special themed evenings featuring musical accompaniment from guest artists. This year’s program will feature some classic titles such as Nosferatu (1922) and Safety Last! (1923), alongside some modern favorites like The Artist (2011) and Hugo (2011). In addition to these screenings, there will be several special events throughout the year including a Valentine’s Day screening of City Lights (1931) and an evening dedicated to Buster Keaton.
