For over 50 years, Tony Blackburn has been a staple in the British music industry. He began his career in radio as a DJ for Radio Caroline in 1964 and then for BBC Radio 1, where he stayed until 2004. He was the first voice heard on BBC Radio 1 when it launched in 1967 and is still remembered today for his long-running show, Pick of The Pops. Tony Blackburn’s career also includes singing and songwriting. His first single, “Till I Kissed You”, was released in 1965 and reached number one on the UK Singles Chart. It was followed by other hits such as “The Sun Ain't Gonna Shine Anymore” (1966) and “My Baby Loves Lovin'” (1969). In 1973, he released his debut album Tony Blackburn Sings His Greatest Hits which featured covers of popular songs from the 60s and 70s. It charted at number one on the UK Albums Chart.
In addition to his musical career, Tony Blackburn has had success as a television presenter. He hosted shows such as Top of The Pops (1972–78), Junior Showtime (1975–79), Saturday Superstore (1982–86), and Going Live! (1987–93) and Ooh La La! (1998–2001). He also appeared as a guest presenter on Loose Women in 2012 and won Celebrity MasterChef in 2015. Tony Blackburn is set to embark on his 2023 tour.
