Professor Brian Cox was born on March 3, 1968, in Oldham, England. He became interested in physics at a young age, thanks to Carl Sagan and the wonders of space.  He started out as a musician and played keyboards for the pop band D:Ream in the early 1990s before going back to school.  Cox earned a PhD in particle physics from the University of Manchester. He blended his performance skills with his scientific knowledge to make difficult physics easy for everyone to understand.

 Cox became well-known for hosting BBC scientific shows like Wonders of the Solar System (2010) and Stargazing Live (2009–2023). He won several Royal Television Society awards for his work.  He has been to science festivals, TED Talks, and Glastonbury all over the world.  His unusual ability to integrate research with interesting stories has made him one of the most well-known physicists in popular culture. He has written over 100 peer-reviewed papers and books, including The Quantum Universe (2004).
