Musicaltrip around the world! 3x JUNO Award nominees Sultans of String will deliver an enthusiastic performance showcasing both originals and classics from various cultures. Instead of sulking inside this winter, let this be your opportunity to get out and explore music from different parts of the world! The Sultans of String add their distinctive sound to well-known classics like Jesu, Joy of Man's Desiring, Jesous Ahatonhia (with gorgeous newly translated Indigenous lyrics), a Turkish take on Greensleeves, Silent Night, as well as a Gypsy-jazz inspired Django Christmas and a Rumba-Flamenca fuelled Jingle Bells. This surprising and delightful holiday fiesta heats up with fiery fiddle tunes and Rebecca Campbell, a glimmering guest vocalist, joins Sultans of String (Jane Siberry, Ian Tamblyn). The Sultans of String have dominated the Top 10 national radio charts across Canada since their formation ten years ago, and they have won numerous awards and recognitions, including two JUNO Award nominations (Canada's Grammy), first place in the ISC (15,000 entries), and three Canadian Folk Music Awards out of eight nominations. Chris McKhool, a violinist and bandleader, was recently honored with a Queen's Diamond Jubilee Medal for his efforts to foster community through music. When McKhool (who has shared the stage with Jesse Cook and Pavlo) first heard the rumba beat of founding guitarist Kevin Laliberté (Jesse Cook), their musical chemistry produced Sultans of String's distinctive sound: the close-knit and lighthearted interaction between violin and guitar. From this strong base, the dynamic combo expanded to include such incredible musical mates as guitarist Eddie Paton, bassist Rosendo Chendy Leon (Parachute Club, Alex Cuba), and bass master Drew Birston (Chantal Kreviazuk) (Robert Michaels). For the past few years, Sultans of String have been touring across North America. They have performed at numerous taste-making venues like JUNOFest, the storied jazz club Birdland in New York City, the renowned Celtic Connections Festival in the UK, and California's hip music scene, including the San Jose Jazz Festival. They are equally at home in a concert series, folk or jazz club, or festival setting. They recently performed with the Toronto, Vancouver, and Edmonton Symphony Orchestras and sold out Toronto's Carnegie Hall, Koerner Hall. The Sultans of String have given live performances on SiriusXM in Washington, DC, BBC TV, Irish National Radio, and the internationally syndicated series WoodSongs.
