Walt Disney's World on Ice, originally Walt Disney's World on Ice, is a series of touring ice shows produced by Feld Entertainment's Ice Follies And Holiday on Ice, Inc. under agreement with The Walt Disney Company. Aimed primarily at children, the shows feature figure skating and acrobatic performances to music from Disney films and properties.
The first show, titled Walt Disney's World on Ice, debuted in 1981 under the direction of Tony Chamberlain. When the tour visited Great Britain in 1982 for the first time, Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip attended a performance at Wembley Arena. The tour additionally performed in Australia, Europe and Japan before being brought to the United States for the first time in 1985.
Mr. Feld has said that when he started out, his ice shows were "geared more toward adults because that's who was buying the tickets." But as he watched his children grow up, he realized that "kids want to see their favorite characters come to life."
Today, Feld Entertainment produces four different ice shows under the Walt Disney's World on Ice banner: Mickey & Minnie's Magical Journey, Princess Classics, Finding Nemo and Dare to Dream. In addition, a fifth show, Worlds of Fantasy, toured in 2009 and 2010.
Mickey & Minnie's Magical Journey, the first new show created specifically for the Walt Disney's World on Ice brand in a decade, made its debut in 2003. The story follows Mickey Mouse and Minnie Mouse as they travel to different Disney locations including Pixie Hollow, Hawaii and even Never Land.
