About Live Nativity

The Christian faith has an established tradition of displaying art objects that depict the birth of Jesus, which is also known as a nativity scene, manger scene, crib, crèche, or in Italian presepio or presepe. This delightful custom is particularly celebrated during the Christmas season and brings joy to believers from all walks of life. Often referred to as a "nativity scene," the Nativity of Jesus is widely portrayed in art form. However, this term has a more precise implication, describing seasonal displays with model figures or living reenactments featuring real humans and animals. Traditional Nativity scenes depict figures of the newborn Jesus, Mary his mother, and her husband Joseph. The nativity scene draws its inspiration from the beloved scriptural accounts of Jesus' birth which are described in Matthew and Luke. According to Luke's narrative, an angel proclaimed Jesus' birth to shepherds who then trekked off in search of the newborn and found Him cradled in a manger -a wooden trough usually used as food storage for livestock. In Matthew's telling, we learn of "wise men" (Greek: μαγοι, romanized: magoi ) who take a journey guided by the star to find Jesus and his family. His account suggests that these Magi discovered him sometime later - less than two years after he was born on Earth - rather than precisely on the day itself (Mat. 2:1-23). Though Matthew's account omits mentioning the angels and shepherds, Luke's narrative is conspicuously quiet concerning the Magi and star. During the nativity scene, both the Magi and angels are represented alongside Mary, Joseph, and the shepherds (Luke 2:7, 12, 17). Every year, the faithful across Christendom reenacted the symbolic scene created by St. Francis at Greccio in their exhibitions and celebrations. Unfortunately, the church had to ban medieval mystery plays in the 15th century due to frequent cases of abuse and overstatement by performers. In some nations, the nativity story was reenacted in public with actors dressing up as Joseph and Mary on a pilgrimage from place to place seeking refuge before being told again and again that there's no room for them.
