The annual hip-hop festival known as Rock the Bells began in Southern California but has since gone global. The event, which is now in its sixth year, will make its way to the United Kingdom for the first time ever this May. The two-day festival will take place at London's O2 Arena on May 24 and 25.
The three main locations for Rock the Bells 2007 were New York on July 28 and 29, San Bernardino on August 11, and San Francisco on August 18. A reformed Rage Against the Machine and Wu-Tang Clan co-headlined these select performances. The performers in the shows made appearances in alternating slots over the two-show weekend in New York and chose performances for the remaining 20 performances, which featured the Wu-Tang Clan as the major attraction. A second stage known as the Paid Dues Independent Hip Hop Stage was also present in five cities. The first non-hip hop act to be featured at the festival was Rage Against the Machine.
The Rock the Bells festival visited New York City in July 2007, and this occasion stood out in particular. The one-day stop in Fresh York City was extended to two days and a number of new and special guests were added to the lineup when the enormous Randall's Island venue swiftly sold out. The event featured performances by the entire Paid Dues festival lineup on a second stage, the reunion of headliners Rage Against the Machine and Wu-Tang Clan, guest appearances (such as Scott Ian performing Bring the Noise with Public Enemy), a special Black Star performance by Mos Def and Talib Kweli, and one of the near-final appearances of renowned hip-hop icon Pimp C.
