Paul Alain Leclerc, better known by his stage name Julien Clerc, is a French singer-songwriter. Born in Paris to a well-off family, Clerc was introduced to music at an early age. He began taking piano lessons at the age of five and later also learned to play the guitar. His first public performance came at the age of ten when he sang for Pope John XXIII during a visit to the Vatican. Clerc's professional career began in the early 1960s. He released his first single, "Laissez-moi danser", in 1962. It was followed by a string of successful singles, including "Ma préférence" and "Je m'voyais déjà". His debut album, Le petit jules et ses chansons, was released in 1967. Clerc's popularity continued to grow in the 1970s and 1980s.
