Grammy Award-winning gospel singer Shirley Caesar has been a major force in the music industry since the 1960s. Born in North Carolina, Shirley began singing in her local church choir at the age of 10. By the time she was 16, she had formed her gospel group called The Caesar Singers and began to tour throughout the United States. In 1969, Shirley released her first solo album entitled "Shirley Caesar Sings". This album was a huge success and garnered two Grammy nominations for Best Gospel Performance. In 1973, Shirley released her second studio album titled "First Lady of Gospel", which featured hits such as "He's Working It Out For You" and "I've Got A Reason To Rejoice". The album was certified gold by the RIAA and earned Shirley two more Grammy nominations. Throughout her career, Shirley has won 11 Grammy Awards, 18 Doves Awards, an NAACP Image Award, and a Soul Train Music Award for Best Gospel Album of the Year.
She is also one of only two female gospel singers to be inducted into the Gospel Music Hall of Fame (the other being Mahalia Jackson). In recent years, Shirley has continued to be successful with albums such as "The Journey Continues" (2011) and "Fill This House" (2017). Her latest release is a live recording entitled "Live At The Ryman", which includes classic songs such as "No Charge" and "I'm Going Through". In addition to releasing new music, Shirley continues to perform live concerts all over the world. She recently announced that she will embark on a 2023 tour across Europe and North America.
