Maverick City Music has made its mark in the music industry, becoming an iconic force in the Christian music scene. Founded in 2018 by Anthony Skinner, Terrian Bass, Joe L Johnson, and Jonathan Jay, the group quickly established a strong fan base with their debut EP ‘Part One’. In 2019 they released their debut full-length album of urban gospel songs called ‘Maverick City Vol. I’, which went on to win the 2020 GMA Dove Award for Contemporary Gospel/Urban Album of the Year. With its catchy melodies, tight raps, and infectious energy it was well-received by both fans and critics alike. Since then Maverick City Music has released two more studio albums; ‘Maverick City Vol. 2’ and ‘Maverick City Vol. 3’ as well as an extended play titled ‘Activate’ in 2021. They have also been featured in songs with other influential artists such as John Legend, Chris Tomlin, and Bethel Music.
All four original members have embarked on successful solo careers away from the collective: Joe L Johnson released his solo album ‘The Voice Within’ in 2020; Anthony Skinner has worked with Grammy-winning producer Jeff Robinson; Terrian Bass produced projects for Kirk Franklin; and Jonathan Jay recently won a Grammy for Best Contemporary Christian Album for his own album entitled ‘The Way Home’. In addition to their award-winning discography, Maverick City Music has also toured extensively over the past few years, playing sold-out shows at major festivals around the world including Hillsong UNITED's Worship Together Conference in London (2019), Relevant Conference Houston (2020) and Burning Man Festival in Nevada (2021).
